This 3-panel series, created in the latter half of 2016, was born out of a strong desire to draw something, but with no idea what to draw.
I started with the drawing equivalent of free association and then created a narrative to match. The results were odd but very enjoyable.
These cartoons were written in various years but didn't fit the 3-panel style above. They were immensely satisfying to draw but the process was challenging because I had so little control over how my drawings looked. I almost never started with an idea and drew it. Even when I did have an idea, I wasn't skilled enough to make the drawing resemble anything like what I saw in my mind. My choices were to become frustrated and give up, or to just let the drawing happen and then add text to make some kind of sense out of it -- and that's where the magic (and enjoyment) happened. I drew a lot of inspiration from The Neighborhood by Jerry Van Amerongen.
